Turning social mobility into reality: Georgina

September 9, 2010

Georgina

Georgina, currently in her final year at the University of Nottingham, was placed in an internship at Taylor Wessing in 2006, when she was 17. She has just been offered a training contract by the firm.

She says that her experience with the SMF ‘has helped me immensely in my career so far, in particular, by helping me to develop the confidence, networking skills, and necessary experience in order to obtain vacation scheme placements at two prestigious corporate law firms this summer. On my initial SMF internship I was able to learn first-hand what it is like to be a solicitor within a city law firm, as well as develop the necessary skills for entering the legal profession. As a result, I was able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the role of a corporate lawyer, as well as developing a commercial awareness, without which I believe I would have struggled to meet the assessment criteria.

The Social Mobility Foundation is so important, because through the internships, mentoring, and on-going support it provides, it enables bright students with limited opportunities to gain valuable experience and contacts within a professional environment, and the support they need to reach their full potential.’
