What does the SMF do?
Our new Aspiring Professionals Programme attracts Year 12 students interested in exploring top professions and organisations and offers them the chance to be mentored by a professional in the career area they are interested and the opportunity to undertake a summer internship in their chosen sector. In addition, we provide a series of events to support them through the university application process.
Eligibility Criteria
Our students must be:
- In Year 12 / Lower Sixth
- In receipt of Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)
- In possession of at least 5 As at GCSE
- Predicted at least ABB for A-level
How do students apply?
Students must fill out an application form online and also submit a teacher reference. Both must be submitted by Monday 30th November 2009.
We also require written parental consent and proof of students’ EMA entitlement to be sent to us by post, to reach us by Friday 11th December 2009. You can download the parental consent form here.
Are the websites secure?
For the Aspiring Professionals Programme, all of the mentors are CRB checked and provided with training on how to keep the mentoring relationship within safe boundaries. There is no exchange of personal contact details on the websites; only the first names of mentor and mentee will be shown in conversations on the website. The websites are monitored and posts are vetted for inappropriate language/remarks.
