Welcome to our 2015 cohort!

APP London Launch 23-02-15 (3)

Students at Inner Temple Hall, London

We have been very busy over the last few weeks here at the Social Mobility Foundation (SMF), kicking off the Aspiring Professionals Programme (APP) with seven launch events across the country. Welcoming our largest cohort to date, we have hosted students in Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London and Manchester to introduce them to all the different aspects of the APP. The whole team were really excited to meet over 750 students and get going on their first skills sessions.

Starting off with two launches at the spectacular Inner Temple, we met an enthusiastic new cohort of London students. With a full house on both evenings, students from schools across London joined us to hear about the exciting opportunities ahead and took part in a session on writing that all important personal statement.

Next, with a 170% increase in the number of students from the North West, we hosted our biggest ever launches in Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester. Thank you to KPMG for providing fantastic venues in Manchester and Leeds and to Weightmans LLP for their impressive offices in Liverpool. Students were introduced to the programme including a session on making informed decisions about university choices.

In Glasgow, APP coordinator, Paul, met over 50 students at the law firm Ashurst’s offices. Student’s heard about what they can expect from the SMF over the next few years and even had their first try at networking.

Our final launch was at KPMG Birmingham. With double the number of students attending than 2014, the evening included a breakdown of the APP and an informative session on Russell Group universities.

Next up are our futures days in  different sectors and we’ll be taking students to ten cities across the country for university visits. Having met such an impressive cohort of students from all over the UK we are all really excited about the events coming up and the year ahead!
