Students supported by the SMF are provided with a wide-range of support from Year 12/S5 to until they graduate.
One to One Support
On joining one of our programmes, you’ll be matched to a mentor who is working in the career you want to join in the future. You’ll talk to your mentor regularly via email and gain invaluable advice to help you get to the top.
You’ll also be invited to skills sessions and sector-specific events which will improve your confidence, broaden your horizons and make you more aware of differences between the professions.
Depending on your engagement with our programme, you’ll undertake short internships in the sector you want to work in where you’ll gain a real insight into the world of work that you want to join. It won’t be photocopying and filing, you’ll be shadowing professionals, completing tasks and attending important meetings. The internships that we organise are remarkable experiences which can be included in your CV and university personal statement.
Although being on our programme is not a full-proof way of gaining a place at university, with our advice on which universities to apply to and what to say in your personal statement, you’ll be able to submit the best possible UCAS application for to help you go further.
Support from the SMF continues throughout your time at university. We’ll will keep you up-to-date with undergraduate opportunities, such as summer internship and job vacancies at top firms and organisations and give you exclusive advice through our undergraduate skill sessions for your next step, such as how to write a CV that will get you noticed and how to make the best impression at an assessment centre day for competitive graduate jobs.
