THE HORROR STORY YOU DIDN’T KNOW YOU WERE LIVING IN

OUR FILM ABOUT WORKPLACE CLASSISM – WHERE POLISH COMES BEFORE POTENTIAL

Everyone deserves to be paid fairly for their work, but people from working-class backgrounds are still being paid less than their more privileged peers - even when doing the same professional jobs.

On average, they earn £6,718 less per year. That’s 12% less than their peers, simply because of their background.

And that class pay gap is just the beginning.

From entering the workplace, to belonging in it, and getting on in it – too often markers of privilege are read as markers of potential.

And real ability and talent are left in the shadows.

Everyone should have the right to thrive in education and in work, regardless of their social background.

That’s why at the SMF, we’re calling on the Government to introduce mandatory socioeconomic background reporting for all large employers. Because what gets measured, gets done.
